Columnist Charlie Stile breaks it down

When former President Donald Trump got word of his indictment on Thursday night, he was reportedly sitting with close political advisors at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

It’s the first time a former U.S. president will face federal charges and it’s the second time he’s been indicted. Special Counsel Jack Smith said, “The men and women of the U.S. intelligence community and armed forces dedicated lives to protecting the nation and its people — our laws that protect national defense information are critical for safety and security of the United States and must be enforced. Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”

The charges come ahead of the 2024 presidential election, which might open up a bigger lane for former New Jersey governor and Trump-critic, Chris Christie.

NorthJersey.com columnist Charlie Stile said, “A recent Monmouth poll showed that his [Trump’s] support actually grew over the first quarter of this year when he was indicted in New York and found guilty in a civil trial on sexual misconduct charges. So it just defied the laws of the political universe.”
