Chris Christie is back in the presidential race. The former New Jersey governor is expected to announce his run for the Republican nomination on Tuesday night at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, an important state in the campaign cycle. What’s Christie’s path to the nomination? And is there an appetite among voters for a fiery alternative to former President Donald Trump?
Democratic strategist Dan Bryan said, “His issue is going to be Donald Trump. Donald Trump is, as we sit here right now, running away with this nomination.”
“There’s a lane that’s an anti-Trump lane and that has to be the lane Christie takes,” said Republican strategist Chris Russell. “There’s no other lane for him to have. Right now, Ron DeSantis is in that lane, and I don’t think there’s room for two people in it. So Chris Christie’s lane has to be figuring out how can he supplant, get around, get through DeSantis.”
