At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness launched a new weapon in its fight against misinformation and manufactured news — a “disinformation portal” that officials say has become crucial in combating everything from deepfake technology to altered viral videos and conspiracy theories.

Thomas Hauck, a retired FBI agent who runs the portal for New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security, tells NJ Spotlight News how his team is getting reliable information to the public as it works to eliminate false facts.
