Affording quality child care remains one of the greatest financial struggles for many families in New Jersey, and it’s only gotten worse during the pandemic. On Monday, U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) met with parents, providers and advocates to better understand the challenges they face.

Menendez has introduced a bill that would expand investments in pre-K to help centers hire and retain workers and to make it affordable for working- and middle-class families. The bill proposes that any family making under $213,000 would pay no more than 7% of their income on child care. Menendez says that would save the typical family in New Jersey as much as $27,000 in expenses.
