Many Ida victims face homelessness as towns run out of funds, ending aid

Meanwhile, FEMA extends deadline to apply for assistance

Months after the remnants of Hurricane Ida drenched New Jersey, flood victims are getting a little more time to seek federal aid. The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Friday the deadline to apply for relief has been extended to Jan. 5.

But for hundreds of renters displaced by the storm, federal help only goes so far. Families from West Orange to Passaic have relied on local officials to pay for hotel rooms as they try to piece their lives back together. And as the holidays near, that help appears likely to end.
