More than a century ago thousands of immigrants passed through Ellis Island and onto Jersey City looking for a land of opportunity. Jersey City is still considered America’s “Golden Door,” welcoming new waves of immigrants and refugees from Afghanistan to Ukraine.
More than 250 immigrant experts and leaders from nonprofit organizations from across the country gathered in Jersey City Thursday for the opening day of the New Americans Campaign conference. The national network led by Immigrant Legal Resources helps people apply for U.S. citizenship and supports immigrants, people seeking asylum and refugees to overcome barriers to naturalization.
