More than 300 Elizabeth high school students chanted and marched past the city’s high schools and police stations Thursday to demand that the district provide more mental health resources to students to resolve disciplinary issues. Organizers said transparency, rather than policing, is what will help students.
The call for more care has been amplified in the wake of police-involved shootings, youth mental health issues spiking during the pandemic and more research on the impact of police presence on students of color.
