State prosecutors on Friday announced that another former corrections officer at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women has been indicted. Tyrell Harris-McLaughlin, 29, from Jersey City is accused of second-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree official misconduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact in connection with the sexual assault of an inmate just weeks after federal authorities announced a plan to rein in years of abuse at the facility.

Some 14 other ex-officers have been indicted since September for their roles in a violent 2021 midnight raid at the prison that left two women with serious injuries. Prosecutors called the allegations against Harris-McLaughin “among the most egregious possible abuses of the badge.”
