Social service organizations across New Jersey took part in a point-in-time survey Wednesday to count the homeless population and others at risk. The annual survey is done to determine how much federal funding is needed.
Last year’s count found nearly 8,100 men, women and children homeless across the state. That number is expected to increase with the rise in COVID-19 cases. The ending of the state’s eviction moratorium earlier this month is also seen as a contributory factor especially given the continuing lack of affordable housing.
Chasing the Dream: Poverty and Opportunity in America is a multiplatform public media initiative that provides a deeper understanding of the impact of poverty on American society. Major funding for this initiative is provided by the JPB Foundation. Additional funding is provided by Ford Foundation.
