New Jersey has distributed more than $500 million in federal emergency rental assistance to thousands in the state. But struggling homeowners haven’t gotten the same help, even though the federal government set aside $10 billion in a Homeowner Assistance Fund as part of a COVID-19 relief package for states.
Nearly 10 months later, very few states have set up an application process for the program, nor have they handed out any checks to families in need. We talk to Ashley Balcerzak of the Bergen Record, who has been reporting on the delay in New Jersey and who is being hurt by it.
