Shelters across New Jersey are facing continued challenges as COVID-19 cases keep climbing. Many say they’ve had to limit capacity, which means some homeless may not have anywhere to go during the cold winter months. Thousands more New Jerseyans could also be forced out into the street since the state recently lifted its eviction moratorium. Shelters say they’re doing their best to provide services to the homeless despite continued challenges. If space isn’t available, staff will work with cities and other local partners in hopes no one has to spend a night out in the cold.
