Workers at three Starbucks locations in New Jersey joined more than 100 other stores across the country in a one-day strike Wednesday morning. The work stoppage comes a day ahead of the company’s annual shareholders meeting and as Starbucks’ new CEO Laxman Narasimhan takes the helm. Union members are protesting the company’s alleged anti-union activity, which the company denies.
Workers at the Hopewell Township Starbucks, the first in New Jersey to unionize, say they are hoping the strike will help them get a second bargaining session with the company. Employees at Hamilton and Montclair Starbucks locations also held a strike Wednesday.
