NJ senators urge Starbucks CEO to negotiate with unions

Menendez, Booker tell Schultz that employees have 'commonsense demands'

U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker are urging Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to stop delaying negotiations with employees of four unionized New Jersey Starbucks stores. Workers at the stores in Hopewell Township, Hamilton, Summit and Montclair have been waiting between six and 10 months for a first collective bargaining agreement, as required by the National Labor Relations Act.

In a letter to Schultz, the Democratic senators pointed out employees’ demands of “commonsense requests,” such as better training, health and safety improvements, benefits for part-time work and raises for increased workloads. Starbucks is facing similar complaints of delaying the bargaining process in 21 locations in the Pacific Northwest.
