Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City is still the darling of March Madness, stunning everyone with their Cinderella run to the Sweet 16. The victories by the men’s basketball team have drawn huge attention to the Jesuit university in Jersey City. And their own faithful students and administrators are welcoming the spotlight on the small school, as anticipation builds toward the team’s matchup with Purdue on Friday.
“Our website crashed immediately after the game ended,” said Angeline Boyer, director of communications at the school. “‘Where is Saint Peter’s?’ was trending on Google. That was really exciting. Since then, we’ve seen over 1000% increase on our institutional social media accounts.”
“The last weekend has actually been a dream. Coming off of a MAAC win, I was like ‘yes! This is the best it’s gonna get.’ And I was just glad that they got a seed. But the fact that they’re making it this far is really crazy to me,” said Kiara Suero, a senior at Saint Peter’s.
