Customers are clearing shelves of bottled water after a chemical spill Saturday in Otter Creek, a few miles upstream of the Delaware River. State and federal officials say they’re closely monitoring water quality and so far New Jersey is not affected nor are Philadelphia and Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where the spill originated.

About 8,000 gallons of a latex finishing solution spilled into the creek after an equipment failure at a chemical facility in Bristol, Pennsylvania. According to New Jersey American Water, there is “no impact to the source water outside the company’s Delaware River Regional Water Treatment Plant.” The company is issuing a voluntary water conservation notice for customers in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties to help the region’s water supply.
