A controversial plan to build a massive warehouse complex on the banks for the Delaware River in Warren County may be dead after the state agreed instead buy the land from the developer.
For years, the warehouse proposal by the developer Jaindl Land Co. has drawn fierce opposition from residents of White Township and surrounding communities who are worried such a development would harm their environment, health and quality of life.
Those opponents are now claiming victory after Jaindl withdrew the plans and said it was negotiating with the state to sell what is currently farmland. Further details or terms of the agreement remained unclear.
“Politicians being who they are, they react to their constituents,” said Tom Bodolsky, a member of a grassroots group that fought the plans, Citizens for Sensible Development. “I want to pat my organization on the back, because we very much kept this matter in the forefront. We were boisterous, we were numerous, and we attended every meeting.”
