With omicron having apparently passed its peak, more people getting COVID-19 boosters and hospitals finally getting some breathing room, several health experts see a “better situation, overall” for COVID-19’s future trajectory in New Jersey.
They note that workers are responding to booster mandates, and a new COVID-19 variant may gain little foothold in a population that’s protected by high levels of immunity, whether from infection or vaccination. Add to that, new vaccines under development and oral COVID-19 treatments that will be available in pharmacies — and some epidemiologists say they’re feeling “very cautiously optimistic.”
