President Donald Trump has promised to get to the bottom of the mystery of supposed drone sightings that stirred panic in the Garden State for weeks, and even resulted in temporary flight restrictions over dozens of towns.
While signing executive orders on Monday at the White House, Trump directed his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, to find out who and what was behind the drone sightings, after a reporter asked for an update on the situation.
Thousands of unexplained drone sightings were reported to federal authorities in December, including near Trump’s national golf course in Bedminster. The reports were coupled with viral posts on social media of people claiming to have spotted drones in the skies.
The FBI and aviation experts have since said a majority of what people saw were actually manned aircraft and not in fact drones, and that there was no specific threat identified. The Federal Aviation Administration this weekend lifted nearly all of the restrictions on no-fly zones throughout the state.
