Trenton’s mayor is pleading for the state’s help, asking the Murphy administration to intervene and provide funding for the city’s animal shelter. The request comes days after the city council voted to cut ties with a local nonprofit running the facility. That leaves the shelter without staff or a veterinarian — and just a handful of city workers caring for the hundreds of animals that cycle through the shelter in any given year.
“I was surprised, because the money was already budgeted through the Department of Health and Human Services. We had been doing an exceptional job,” said Danielle Gletow, founder and executive director of Trenton Animals Rock.
