From the race to unseat embattled U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez to the ripple effect that has caused on congressional elections in opposite corners of the state, New Jersey is seeing one of the most hectic primary election seasons in years.

Despite some hotly contested races, the primaries are unlikely to draw a big voter turnout, said Micah Rasmussen, the director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University. “It’s not going to be like the kind of turnout we’re going to see in November,”  Rasmussen said in an interview with NJ Spotlight News. As a result, he said, the campaigns are scrambling “to figure out how they can motivate their voters to turn out.”
