“When I stood up I was getting really dizzy. I started having severe memory loss for a period of about a week or so, and brain fog. I couldn’t even read a text message on my phone,” said Britteny Zito of her first symptoms of long COVID-19. Dr. Angel Lazo treated Zito, who he says, is a typical long COVID-19 patient.

It can be hard to pinpoint all the symptoms; there are more than a dozen, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and primary care physicians often don’t connect them back to COVID-19.

A federally funded four-year study of long COVID-19 in children is underway; it’s a collaboration between the National Institutes of Health, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and several other partners, including Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and numerous children’s hospitals.
