Hundreds of union workers at Liberty Coca-Cola in northern Philadelphia, the region’s largest soft drink distributor, are on strike. This comes amid failed contract negotiations between the company and the Teamsters Local 830 union representing warehouse workers, drivers and sales staff. Union members are picketing outside production and distribution buildings on East Erie Avenue until a deal is reached. Workers are calling for higher wages, better health benefits and retirement plans.
In a statement, Liberty Coca-Cola said it bargained in good faith with the roughly 400 workers, offering “the highest wage increases in Coca-Cola/Teamster Local 830’s history.” Union representatives called the contract proposal “insulting.” Liberty Coca-Cola says its plan is to continue delivering products while the strike is in place.
