On Monday, as part of Gov. Phil Murphy’s Naloxone365 initiative, the state launched StopOverdoses.NJ.gov, a website where residents can find pharmacies that hand out naloxone free of charge. Naloxone is a drug that reverses the effects of a drug overdose and has saved countless lives in New Jersey and across the country.
In an effort to curb the opioid epidemic in the state as well, Hackensack Meridian has partnered with HIKMA Pharmaceuticals and Dispensary of Hope to create a pilot program to bring Naloxone to even more people.
“If you are a patient at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, we have addiction specialists that will see you at the bedside, give you the care you need,” said the Chief of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Aakash Shah. “And before you go, give you Kloxxado, a rescue agent at the point of discharge.”
Dr. Shah says the collaboration works because no organization can work alone to curb the opioid crisis, it’s going to take a village to see any major changes.
