March was a good month for Atlantic City’s casinos. Sports betting revenue was up 15% for the month — the best March on the books in the last decade, according to state figures. Casinos and horse tracks that take sports bets and their online partners won over $487 million in March. But according to data released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement on Friday, casinos are still struggling with their main business — in-person gambling.
Only 3 of 9 casinos — the Borgata, Hard Rock and Ocean — individually won more from in-person gambling last month than the same time in 2019, the year before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a representative of the Casino Association of New Jersey, the numbers show how the industry remains in a “rebuilding phase.”
