Once Gov. Phil Murphy’s mask mandate is lifted, it’ll be up to superintendents to decide what regulations will remain in place for their school districts. Some have kept mask mandates in place even when state guidance was relaxed. That’s what’s happening in Newark, where district leaders say the mask policy will remain even after Mar. 7, because it’s “part of the district protocol.” NJ Spotlight News education writer John Mooney has been making calls to get reactions from school leaders on where they stand and how they feel about having to make these complicated and often unpopular decisions.
