Thirty-year-old Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour was found dead in her car near her home Wednesday night with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office. There’s still no suspect and no information about a possible motive in her killing.

Dwumfour, a Republican, was serving a three-year term on the borough council; she also served on Sayreville’s human relations committee. The state Senate on Thursday began its session with a moment of silence in Dwumfour’s honor. Statements have been pouring in from elected officials including Gov. Phil Murphy, who said he was “stunned by the news” and offered his condolences to the councilwoman’s family and friends.
