Suspect arrested in Molotov cocktail attack on synagogue

A 26-year-old man from Clifton was charged with federal arson

A 26-year-old man from Clifton has been arrested and charged in the attack on a synagogue in Bloomfield. According to the FBI, Nicholas Malindretos was charged with federal arson, accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at Temple Ner Tamid Sunday night.

The suspect’s face was covered with a black ski mask, but videos show him walking around the synagogue property before lighting the device and throwing it at the front door of the building. The device didn’t go off and no one was injured. The charges against Malindretos carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Threats and attacks on Jewish people and houses of worship have increased in New Jersey and nationwide.
