It’s been two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion. On Monday, Sen. Teresa Ruiz introduced nine bills in a package that Senate Democrats said is aimed at safeguarding “reproductive and bodily autonomy rights in New Jersey.”

“We parsed and separated the bill because this is a huge package that dropped in 2020 but it hasn’t moved, so in an effort that we keep chipping away at human protection rights, we divvied up and separated the bills,” Ruiz (D-Essex) said.

The bills include regulations on the rights of patients and providers, insurance companies, grants to strengthen access to reproductive health care, emergency contraception access, and data privacy to ensure confidentiality for those receiving reproductive health services, among other provisions.
