Two Republican state senators filed motions last week to intervene in state Attorney General Matthew Platkin’s lawsuit over parental rights. Sens. Mike Testa and Doug Steinhardt filed motions on behalf of school districts in Middletown, Marlboro, Manalapan and Hanover.

The attorney general’s office is challenging school district policies that require parental notification when a child requests school records to be changed to reflect a different gender.

In an interview with NJ Spotlight News, Steinhardt said, “Parents have a God-given right to protect and raise their kids their way, and the state does not have the right to step in and usurp that responsibility from parents.”

“They want parents to clothe their children, feed their children and shelter their children. But God forbid they actually know their own children and have a say in the direction of their child’s lives,” said Testa.
