College basketball’s annual national championship tournaments tip off this week, and this year Saint Peter’s University men’s basketball and Princeton University women’s basketball carry New Jersey’s flag into March Madness.
The Saint Peter’s men’s team played on Thursday night, as a lowly 16-seed taking on 2-seed Tennessee. A crowd of students and fans gathered at the school’s arena in Jersey City to watch, excited and hopeful following Saint Peter’s miraculous tournament run in 2022. But there was no such magic this year for the Peacocks, who ultimately lost their opening game to Tennessee, 83-49.
The Princeton women’s team, an 8-seed, is expected to be more competitive in their opening game against 9-seed West Virginia. If the Tigers win on Saturday, they will likely face 1-seed Iowa and superstar Caitlin Clark in the second round.
