A new national Monmouth University Poll, released Monday, gives a sense of where public opinion is on COVID-19-related safety restrictions, vaccine mandates and long-term responses to the pandemic. The poll found more than three in four Americans (77%) endorse the Centers for Disease Control and Protection’s relaxation of its face mask and social distancing recommendations in areas with low COVID-19 rates. According to the poll, just 34% of the public supports instituting or reinstituting face masks and social distancing guidelines in their state at present — down significantly from 52% in January.

Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, discusses the poll’s revelations about current public opinion on restrictions, mask mandates, vaccine rules and more.
