For the second time this year, more than 100 men and women registered for a clinic in Union County where they received help expunging their criminal records. Attendees were able to meet with attorneys to discuss how to get their records expunged.

County commissioner Sergio Granados said the goal of Wednesday’s clinic was to give residents a chance to achieve new opportunities often taken away from them after having committed low-level, nonviolent crimes in the past.

“They have lawyers signed on to work with them throughout the entire process” of expungement, said Granados.

The Union County Board of County Commissioners teamed up with consulting firm Blaze Responsibly to provide the expungement services for free.

Many people “can’t move forward in certain career and educational paths because of their record. And this is our way of hopefully … provid[ing] another opportunity for them,” Granados said.
