Some New Jersey families are anxiously awaiting federal authorization of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for 5- to 11-year-old children. It’s expected by the end of the week, following Tuesday’s meeting of a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel. And now Moderna says it has developed a COVID-19 vaccine that’s safe for younger children. Parents who want to get their children vaccinated say it will give them the increased protection they need to stay safe.
“I think that when you’re looking at the risk associated with the vaccine you also need to weigh out the risk associated with COVID. And I know one of the big concerns for parents is issues with myocarditis. However we know that myocarditis is more common post COVID infection than it is post COVID vaccine. And so for me, the benefits far outweigh the risk,” said epidemiologist Dr. Stephanie Silvera of Montclair State University.
