A pilot program is rolling out for officers at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women to wear body cameras. The prison has been under intense scrutiny after years of sexual abuse allegations and a recent violent attack against inmates for which eight correctional officers have been charged.
The facility was called out in a federal Department of Justice probe last spring for allowing rampant sexual abuse to be an “open secret” that persisted for years. The body camera program is intended to give more oversight and accountability inside prisons.
