A Morris County public school teacher resigned this week after fierce backlash following her online comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination, according to the Rockaway Township Board of Education. Board members confirmed her resignation at a Sept. 17 meeting, where some residents called for her to be fired or disciplined.
The teacher, Elizabeth Clark, taught fifth grade math at the Katharine D. Malone Elementary School. Clark told the Daily Record she was placed on administrative leave following a Facebook post she allegedly wrote on Sept. 10, the day Kirk was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University. Clark said she was quickly doxxed online with her personal information shared publicly. And resigned out of fear of safety for her family and students.
According to the Daily Record, the comment included the phrase, “Some people have to die—buh bye.”
Clark is one of several New Jersey educators targeted online for posts seen as critical or insensitive after Kirk’s assassination. The group New Jersey Project has been flagging posts to employers and urging others to do the same.
