One of the most bewildering and closely watched scandals in New Jersey politics appears to have come to an end this week, as former political operative Sean Caddle was sentenced to 24 years in federal prison for organizing a murder-for-hire scheme that led to the killing of his former friend and colleague Michael Galdieri in 2014.
Caddle had been treated with leniency by federal investigators in exchange for his cooperation in other probes, and that included prosecutors recommending a 15-year sentence for a crime that could command life in prison. But it appears just one other conviction has come from Caddle’s information — that of Tony Teixeira, the former chief of staff for state Senate President Nick Scutari (D-Union). Teixeira pleaded guilty to tax fraud.
Nancy Solomon, a senior reporter with WNYC who covers New Jersey, discusses Caddle’s sentencing and where things stand now that the dust is settling on the extraordinary case.
