One of the two men who carried out a bizarre “murder for hire plot” on a Jersey City political operative has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. Federal judge John Vazquez Thursday sentenced Bomani Africa for his role in the 2014 murder of Michael Galdieri, which the judge called “one of the most unusual and heinous crimes” he’s ever encountered. Political consultant Sean Caddle originally hired longtime criminal George Bratsenis to carry out the murder and Bratsenis brought in Africa to help. The men were offered $15,000 for the hit job.

On Thursday, a possible motive in the plot was revealed: Caddle believed Galdieri was stealing from him. All three men have pleaded guilty to their roles in the murder. Africa is already serving a federal prison sentence for an armed robbery and the murder sentence will be served simultaneously. The remaining two men are scheduled to be sentenced next month.
