Could TikTok be harmful to children? It’s a question that’s now being investigated by several states. The social platform used by millions of young people has become the center of a national investigation that New Jersey’s acting attorney general Matt Platkin is co-leading.
The investigation will examine potential negative effects of the popular social media app and whether it’s violating state consumer protection laws by putting young people at risk of mental and physical harm. The announcement comes months after the state co-led a nationwide investigation into whether the Instagram social media platform used techniques that increased the frequency and duration of engagement in ways that were harmful to young users.
