NJ bear hunt on hold after court order

Animal rights groups brought the matter to court

Hunters will have to hold their fire on Monday, now that an appeals court has halted New Jersey’s recently reinstated bear hunt. Three animal rights groups brought the matter to the court, giving them a temporary win with an indefinite hold on the hunt. This comes on the heels of Gov. Phil Murphy shocking many environmentalists by reversing course on the hunt — that he previously had promised to ban — after bear sightings increased by 237% this year.

The State Division of Fish and Wildlife plans to challenge the case in court.
