New Jersey American Water reports that, as of this week, it has replaced more than 4,000 lead and galvanized steel water service lines.
The water utility is two years into a 10-year lead service line replacement plan, required by a state law enacted in 2021. It still has to replace another 24,000 lines — and potentially thousands more that have yet to be identified.
