A citywide mandate went into effect Monday in Newark that requires people ages 5 and older to have received at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 in order to enter most public establishments, like gyms, movie theaters and restaurants. And three weeks from now, people will need to be fully vaccinated in order to enter those businesses.
Ras Baraka, Mayor of Newark, stands by his decision to enforce the mandate for proof of vaccination, especially as the city continues to see a large number of COVID-19 cases. Many businesses and their customers support the mandate, though not all.
