A ceremonial ribbon-cutting officially opened the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport — 1 million square feet of soaring space, outfitted with high-tech security, four lounges and 33 gates. The design is also Jersey-centric, featuring artwork and trivia brimming with Garden State flavor.
The new terminal will replace the current Terminal A, which is almost 50 years old and which Gov. Phil Murphy described as “trying, painful and exhausting.” The new state-of-the-art facility will streamline the travel experience for 13 million passengers a year. “This building — and the experience in this building — will literally transform what people think, and how they think about New Jersey. It’s a game-changer,” Murphy said. The new terminal will open to the public for air travel on Dec. 8.
