Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Poll, spoke with NJ Spotlight News and explained the latest poll results on New Jersey’s contentious race for U.S. Senate.

On the Democratic side, first lady Tammy Murphy appeared to be the most well-known among the party candidates, in the poll released this week, but U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3rd), her chief rival, topped the first lady in favorability.

Among Republicans, the poll found most Republican voters have never heard of the candidates running for that party’s nomination. South Jersey entrepreneur Curtis Bashaw on Tuesday won his fourth county party backing, over Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner and former News 12 New Jersey reporter Alex Zdan.

“The electorate as a whole doesn’t know a lot about these candidates, even those with higher name recognition, such as the first lady or the congressman,” Murray said. “Tammy Murphy has a lot of ground that she can make up with the unknowns. . . Andy Kim could lose his positives once you get into an actual campaign.”
