After the midterm elections, political insiders are already looking ahead to the 2024 presidential campaign season. A new Fairleigh Dickinson University Poll finds New Jersey residents don’t want either current Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy or former Republican Gov. Chris Christie to try to become president.

Some 50% of Democrats said Murphy shouldn’t run. Some 80% of the state’s Republicans said Christie shouldn’t make another attempt at the Oval Office after his failed bid in 2016. Both Murphy and Christie are largely expected to try for their party’s nominations, though Murphy consistently has said he supports President Biden and expects him to run for a second term.

For more details on this new poll, we turn to Dan Cassino, executive director of the FDU poll.
