New Jersey’s primary election is one week away, on June 7, the first time in state history that early voting is an option for the primaries. Early voting starts June 3 and ends June 5. These changes come after the pandemic altered the way people chose to vote for more than two years.
COVID-19 also left polling locations struggling to retain and hire staff. New Jersey has implemented incentives in the form of pay increases for those who want to help at polling locations. “There’s always a need for a full bench of poll workers and the needs vary by county,” said Secretary of State Tahesha Way, who talked with NJ Spotlight News about the different ways voters can cast their ballot in next week’s primary — and the need for more poll workers.
