Advocates and lawmakers gathered at the steps of the State House Thursday demanding passage of a bill that would allow same-day voter registration. The bill would allow voters to show up at the polls on Election Day and vote by provisional ballot. Currently, people must register to vote 21 days before an election.
Sen. Jon Bramnick is the only Republican co-sponsor of the bill. He said if passed, the measure would remove all red tape for those who are eligible and want to vote. Bramnick said he hopes the bill is passed in time for people to vote in the November election.
