With a pledge to continue to make New Jersey stronger and fairer, Gov. Phil Murphy officially began his next four years as New Jersey’s governor, its 56th. Murphy and Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver were sworn in for their second terms — something we have not seen in the state in 40-plus years since Brendan Byrne was reelected. New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner presided over the ceremony at the Trenton War Memorial, one with a little less pomp than usual due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Following the swearing-in, Murphy spoke about his priorities for the second term. These include, he said, working to reduce property taxes, making the state more affordable, and growing the innovation economy.
