Anchor property-tax relief benefits, totaling up to $1,750, have been sent to eligible homeowners and renters alike.
āIām proud to deliver this important tax relief directly to New Jersey families, putting money back in the pockets of both homeowners and renters,ā Gov. Phil Murphy said.
Most of the latest round of Anchor relief was distributed via direct deposit and hit bank accounts on Oct. 10. The state accelerated its delivery of these payments, so early applicants are receiving the funds earlier than expected.
This marks the third year the state is distributing Anchor benefits. Last season’s program, which related to the 2020 tax year, made history as the state’s single largest property-tax relief initiative, with over $2.1 billion in benefits distributed to more than 1.8 million homeowners and renters. Payments ranged from $450 to $1,500, with applicants over age 65 receiving an additional $250.
The current round of benefits applies to anyone who owned a home in 2021 and earned up to $250,000 that year, or who rented and earned up to $150,000. The deadline to file for the next round of benefits is Saturday, Nov. 30. Most new applicants will receive their benefit within 90 days of applying. To date, the Division of Taxation has received about 225,000 new applications for the current Anchor season.
Applicants can check the status of their benefit here. The tool to check benefit status is updated twice weekly.
