Senate President Steve Sweeney could be the most potentially shocking upset from the general election, but he’s not the only Democratic legislator in trouble. In the lower half of his ticket, Democratic Assemblymen John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro could both lose.
In the 2nd Legislative District, Republican Vince Polistina leads Democratic Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo for the Atlantic County Senate seat. In the 8th District, Sen. Dawn Addiego, who was once a Republican but defected to the Democratic Party two years ago, is facing elimination by Republican Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield. District representation could turn all-red.
Further north, Republican Lori Annetta looks poised to take the 11th District’s Senate seat from Democratic Sen. Vince Gopal. His Assembly running mates Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling are also facing defeat.
Democratic Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker pulled out a win over Michael Pappas in the 16th District’s Senate race, bringing his Assembly running-mates along for the win. And in the 14th, Sen. Linda Greenstein and her Assembly colleagues will hold onto their seats.
Bridget Anne Kelly — of Bridgegate notoriety — gave her political comeback a good run, but fell short to now three-time incumbent Democrat John Hogan in the race to become Bergen County Clerk.
