As communities across the state struggle with the homelessness crisis, one New Jersey city’s leaders came together Wednesday to discuss possible solutions.

The Housing Authority of Plainfield and the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church brought together religious and education leaders and those in behavioral and mental health care to share ideas and strategies to address the problem. Officials welcomed the shared conversation.

From the public schools, Plainfield Board of Education Hanae Wyatt said: “It gives me a chance to provide these resources locally to our residents and the community.”

Added Lynette Sheard, director of New Jersey Mental Health Players: “That is our focus, to help … to connect, to break the stigma, to seek help at the beginning, to get things in place just in case — if not for you for your family members.”
